ANNUAL EVENTS

58th ANNUAL YOUTH OLYMPICS May 10, 2008
Since the beginning of the Elk’s Junior Olympics in 1948, the event has continued to be one of the most popular sponsored, hosted, and operated by the members of Elk’s Lodge 1625 in the Antelope Valley.  This year was no different. On May 10, 2008, Elk’s Lodge 1625 hosted the 58th Annual Junior Youth Olympics at Quartz Hill High School Athletic Field.
This year 10 separate schools participated with 454 students in 40 events.  The participants were 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.  The event was managed by over 45 Elk volunteers and supporters. The stands had many friends and relatives of the participants that remained to cheer on the participants until the last event was held. The beginning of the activities were opened with the raising of the American Flag by the Emblem Club #76 Ladies Honor Guard and the Esteemed Loyal Knight George Olson, coordinator of the event. The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Marvin Smith, PER, announcer.
The track events included 4x100 Meter Relay, 1600 Meter Run, 200 Meter Dash, 400 Meter Dash, 800 Meter Dash, 100 Meter Dash, 4x400 Meter Relay.  The infield events included Long Jump, Shot Put, and High Jump for both the 7th and 8th grad boys and girls.  Records continued to be broken from previous years.

Hillview Middle School took 47 medals this year which again ranked them 1st overall in the Antelope Valley.  Del Sur followed with 22 medals overall, Joe Walker Middle School took third with 14 medals overall, and Cole Middle School took fourth with 13 medals overall.  All the participants and schools should be proud of their efforts.

The week’s activities were culminated with the proclamation of Elk’s Youth Week being read and presented by the mayor of Lancaster, R. Rex Parris, at the city council meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.  The officers of the lodge were present at the meet.

2007 Childrens Halloween Party
The Lodge opened its doors at 6pm Halloween Night, not only for the members children, ages 12 and under, but to all Lancaster's kids of the same age. At the door of the Lodge, a Greeter was present. Candy goody bags along with Elk Anti-Drug pamphlets and coloring books were given to each child. Those children and adults (not scared) were then allowed to enter the "Haunted House" (normally the Lodge Room).

The childrens and adults numbered approximately 254, and were provided their choice of free hot dogs, or hamburgers and punch. The Ladies of Emblem Club #76 entertained the kids with various games in the Lodge Banquet Room. Thanks to all the VOLUNTEERS who did the cooking, serving, and to those that helped our Loyal Knight and his Volunteers that helped set up and take down the Haunted House, as well as the live "SPOOKS" who did a great job. Without you all, the kids would not have had a safe night and this event could not have happened. A good time was had by all, including the parents and grandparents.

Elks Lodge #1625 Annual Kids Christmas Party

Saturday, December 23, 2006, the Lodge invited Lodge members children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus children from our local community to visit Santa. In a two hour period, we had approximately 108 boys and girls, ages under 12 and approximately 85 adults come through our front Lodge doors waiting for Santa to arrive via his sleigh, courtesy of Fire Station #129.

All the children visited Santa, and told him what they wanted for XMAS. Each child was provided a Christmas Stocking and a picture while sitting on Santa's lap, and treated with either a hamburger, or hot dog and punch. Games were provided by volunteers of Emblem Club #76, for all the kids to play, and enjoy. We also want to thank Time Warner Television Channel 3, for covering this event. They did a fantastic job.The taping will be aired on Tuesday, December 26th at 5, 7, 9 and 10:30pm.
